Brian Keck named assistant coach at University of Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Brian Keck, a past Pan American champion, has been named Assistant Wrestling Coach at the University of Dubuque.

Keck, an assistant coach for the Cleveland State University the last three seasons, helped coach 16 athletes to the NCAA Champoinships and revitalize the Cleveland State wrestilng program.

“I´m very excited,” Keck said. “I want to elevate the University of Dubuque program to a national title. That is the goal I have and that is the reason I am coming here. I believe we have the resources and ability to win a national title here. During my interview it became clear that the administration and the wrestling program are committed to winning a national title."

A resident athlete of the U.S. Olympic Training Center for 8 years, Brian was a 10 time U.S. Open All-American. He has also helped serve as the Ohio Junior National Team coach for the past 14 years.

Jon McGovern, University of Dubuque´s Head Wrestling Coach, trained with Brian Keck for a year in 2000 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Coach McGovern was heavily involved in the process of the national search for a top quality assistant coach, and said that Brian Keck "is the perfect fit to help take our program to a national title."

“We are excited to have Brian Keck as our assistant coach on a full time basis,” Coach McGovern said. “Brian is well-respected in the wrestling community. He is a great promoter of the sport. His enthusiasm and industriousness for the sport is contagious and he´ll have a great rapport with our athletes. He understands the level of excellence in wrestling we are striving for and I am excited to have him on our coaching staff."

Keck earned his bachelor´s degree from Bloomsburg in 1995 where he was a two-time NCAA Qualifier.
