Call for Nominations for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Class of 2008ng Hall of Fame announces the request for nominations for the Class of 2008. Honors Weekend ´08 has already been scheduled for May 30-31, 2008 and now the honorees need to be chosen.
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame announces the request for nominations for the following awards to be given during Honors Weekend in 2008:
Distinguished Member – a wrestler who has achieved extraordinary success in national and/or international competition, a coach who has demonstrated great leadership in the profession and has compiled an outstanding record, a contributor whose long-term activities have substantially enhanced the development and advancement of the sport, or any combination of the above qualifications.
Outstanding American - those who have used the disciplines of the sport to launch notable careers in other walks of life, such as science and technology, business and industry, government and the military, and the arts and humanities.
The National Wrestling Hall of Fame is also interested in receiving recommendations for other awards to be given out during Honors Weekend in 2008.
Order of Merit - an individual who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of wrestling, other than success as an athlete or coach.
Medal of Courage - a wrestler or former wrestler who has overcome what appear to be insurmountable challenges, which may be physical, mental or other handicaps that make their achievements all the more uplifting.
Lifetime Achievement for Officials - recognizes outstanding service as a wrestling or pairing official or judge.
Previous winners of these awards are not eligible for nomination, but re-nomination of other previous nominees is encouraged.
Please send your nominations to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame by September 3, 2007.
You can find nomination forms for Distinguished Members and Outstanding Americans on our website at www.wrestlinghalloffame.org.
Recommendations for the other awards can be in the form of letters highlighting the reasons why they should be honored. Be sure to include the award you are nominating for, as well as contact information for the nominee, if available.
