CSU's Crenshaw named Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the WeekJosh Rattray Cleveland State University
01/08/2007
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore Victer Crenshaw has been named the Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his CSU career. The 157-pound Crenshaw leads the Vikings with an 18-5 record and is the first Cleveland State wrestler to be recognized by the league this year. The EWL office made the announcement on Monday, Jan. 8.
Crenshaw won all four of his bouts last week, starting with a 3-1 sudden victory over Kent State?s Kurt Gross on Wednesday (Jan. 3). He then won all three of his bouts on Saturday (Jan. 6) at the Purdue Duals, helping CSU to a 2-1 dual meet record on the day.
"Victer is very deserving of this honor," head coach Jack Effner said. "He has worked hard and is wrestling very well right now. His confidence is high and he is doing a tremendous job for our team."
Crenshaw opened the day with a 9-1 major decision over Eddie Hutchinson in CSU?s 25-18 win over Appalachian State. He then routed Kyle O?Toole of Eastern Illinois, 17-0, to help the Vikings to a 32-12 win over the Panthers. Crenshaw finished the day with a 7-1 win over Purdue´s Jake Murphy in CSU?s only loss of the day.
Crenshaw has won seven of his last eight matches dating back to the Midlands Invitational on Dec. 29. He is also 4-0 in dual meet bouts. He did not wrestle in Cleveland State?s win at John Carroll on Nov. 21.
Cleveland State (3-2) travels to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 13 for a noon dual meet. The Vikings are 8-3 all-time against the Eagles.
