Deadline for online registration for ASICS Folkstyle Nationals is April 2restling Folkstyle National Championships, one of the most exciting folkstyle events in the country, is set to take place April 4-6 at the UNI-Dome at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Online registration for the event has begun at:

Registration can be completed online until 10 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2008 for $35. Those who register onsite at the championships pay a $50 entry fee. Don’t miss out on the chance to be a part of the 2008 Asics USA Wrestling Folkstyle National Championships.
Last year featured the biggest turnout in event history with 2,145 wrestlers taking part, and organizers expect that 2008 will be even bigger.
“It has grown into one of the premier folkstyle events in the United States,” said Pete Isais, USA Wrestling National Events Director. “We had almost 2,200 athletes last year. We expect to continue that growth. UNI is the perfect place to host this event. We work with great hosts, and we can put down 22 mats for all the action.”
All athletes wishing to compete must meet age group requirements (see below), any existing state qualification procedures, and be current members of USA Wrestling.
The event features seven different age groups:
• Bantam (Born 2000-01)
• Midget (Born 1998-99)
• Novice (Born 1996-97)
• Schoolboy/girl (Born 1994-95)
• Cadets (Born 1992-93)
• Juniors (Born September 1, 1988 and after, plus current enrollment in grades 9-12), and
• Five divisions of Veteran’s weight classes (Born 1976-83, 1968-75, 1960-67, 1953-59, 1952 and before).
This is only the second year of competition in the Junior and Bantam classes. All Junior finalists qualify for funded-access to the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
“The addition of the Junior division was well received last year,” said Isais. “We look forward to the Junior finalists coming out to Colorado Springs to train.”
This event marks the first leg of the USA Wrestling Triple Crown for the Kids, Cadet, and Junior age groups. To achieve the Triple Crown wrestlers must win a championship during the same year in each of the three styles: folkstyle, freestyle, and Greco-Roman. USA Wrestling is still seeking for its first Junior Triple Crown winner.
USA Wrestling Greco-Roman National Champion Harry Lester will make a guest appearance Sunday, April 6, and will be available for autographs.
