Garrison vs. Sahin is the new Bout of the Week on USA Wrestling Audio/Video website

dated its new “Bout of the Week” which has been posted as a video file on-line on TheMat.com Audio/Video website .

The featured match this week is the 2007 Glenn Garrison vs. Faruk Sahin Greco-Roman gold medal match at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. from the U.S. National Wrestling Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. The match took place on April 7 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

It marked the first U.S. Nationals title for the 33-year-old Garrison, a veteran who has been in the mix near the top of his weight class for a number of years. Garrison placed second at the 2001 and 2005 U.S. World Team Trials.

The 31-year-old Sahin became a U.S. citizen early in 2004 and won the 2004 U.S. Nationals. He later was stripped of that title after he tested positive for a banned substance by the United States Anti-Doping Agency. He served a two-year suspension and is back now competing again. He originally is from Turkey.

Garrison swept Sahin 6-0, 5-3 in the finals of the 2007 U.S. Nationals.

Garrison scored a takedown and three points for exposure to take charge in the first period against Sahin, his teammate on the U.S. Army team. Garrison added a two-point gut wrench to win the period 6-0.

In the second period, Garrison overcame an early 2-0 deficit by scoring a takedown and two points for exposure. He was then awarded two points for a caution in the second period to win 5-3.

Garrison now takes the No. 1 seed into the U.S. World Team Trials on June 9-10 in Las Vegas. Sahin will be the No. 2 seed. Harry Lester, a 2006 World bronze medalist, likely will be the No. 3 seed after not competing at the U.S. Nationals for personal reasons. Lester has made the last two U.S. World Teams at 66 kg/145.5 lbs.

The winner of the U.S. World Team Trials finals advances to the World Championships on Sept. 17-23 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This popular feature will be changed on a regular basis, allowing members to enjoy many of the greatest matches in wrestling history. Many other entertaining and historic matches, including the 2007 U.S. Nationals final between Joe Williams and Lee Fullhart, are in the archive section for
