Grant Gambrall named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for April 15-21 City, Iowa/West High School) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for April 15-21.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.
Gambrall, a University of Iowa recruit, knocked off the nation’s No. 1 and No. 2 ranked recruits at 171 pounds in a pair of impressive performances in all-star competitions.
Gambrall, who was ranked fifth nationally by Amateur Wrestling News, knocked off No. 1 Quentin Wright of Pennsylvania 6-0 in the Dream Team Classic on April 12. The week before, he defeated No. 2 Jordan Blanton of Illinois 1-0 in the Iowa-Illinois all-star meet. Wright is a Penn State recruit and Blanton an Illinois recruit.
Gambrall was a two-time state champion and three-time state finalist for Iowa City West High School.
Gambrall was a Junior Folkstyle National champion and a Cadet Greco-Roman National Champion. He was a Junior All-American last year in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.
