Lampe named athlete of the semester at USOEC

ized Alyssa Lampe of Tomahawk, Wis., as the women’s freestyle athlete of the semester at the U.S. Olympic Education Center.

Lampe, a Northern Michigan University freshman, won gold in the 48 kg/105.5 lbs. senior division at the Missouri Valley Showcase in Marshall, Mo. She finished fifth at the Senior National Championships in Las Vegas. Lampe is currently ranked No. 5 in the senior rankings.

Lampe went on to claim gold at the Body Bar FILA Junior National Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler. Lampe will represent the United States at the Junior World Championships in Beijing, China, August 20-25.

Lampe’s other accomplishments include silver at the 2006 Junior Nationals, 2005 Body Bar FILA Cadet champion, 2004 Body Bar champion and silver at the 2004 Junior Nationals.

Three other athletes from NMU were also named athlete of the semester: Greg Carter, boxing; Katherine Reutter, short track speed skating and Colin Ito, weightlifting.
