Louisiana Chapter of National Wrestling Hall of Fame to hold banquet in Metairie, June 8Mike Clair Wrestling Hall of Fame The Louisiana Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame will honor their Class of 2005 on June 8, 2005 in Metairie, Louisiana. Two men will receive the “Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award.” This award is given annually to coaches, officials or contributors who have given a lifetime of service to wrestling, their communities and most importantly to the young people they have coached, taught, motivated and inspired. Coach Bill Bofinger For 31 years, Coach Bofinger coached wrestling at Lee High School but his contributions do not stop there. His involvement with wrestling in the state of Louisiana spans 40 years. There is no area where Coach Bofinger cannot be found as having a part of wrestling in Louisiana. Coach Samuel J. Sara, III In 1978, the principal at John Q. Adams Junior High School called Coach Sara and asked him to start a wrestling program. With no background in wrestling, Coach Sara would attend practices at other schools, read books and went to every coach’s clinic available. In 1980, Jefferson Parish’s schools were to become co-ed and Coach Sara was named the first wrestling coach at Grace King High School. For their dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, these men will be honored at the "Hall of Fame Celebration Banquet" on June 8, 2005. The banquet and induction ceremonies will take place at the Best Western Landmark Hotel, Metairie.
