National Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Duals to be held in Indianapolis, Ind., June 16-19

John Fuller USA Wrestling
06/08/2005

USA Wrestling will host the 2005 National Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Duals at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind., June 16-19. The National Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Duals will pit some of the top age-group youth against each other in a dual meet format. Athletes will compete for the state that they live in. Competition will be held in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. Rules of the competition will be under the old international freestyle and Greco-Roman rules, with a total match score deciding the winner of each individual match. All scoring rules will also remain the same from last year’s competition. Teams will compete in Greco-Roman June 16-17 and freestyle June 18-19. The schoolboy age group is open to wrestlers ages 13 and 14 years old. If applicable, girls will compete on the boys’ teams. The 19 Schoolboy/Schoolgirl weight classes that will be competed are (in pounds): 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 145, 165, 185, 205, 225 and 250. Teams will be divided into pools based on seeding criteria set forth by USA Wrestling and tabulated by the host Association. Points will be awarded to individuals based on their accomplishments, and the teams with the most points will be seeded the highest. The top two finishers from each pool will then compete in Red and Blue pools. The winners of those two pools will compete for the first-place trophy. Teams will compete down to eighth place. All teams not earning spots in the Red and Blue pools will be placed into a single-elimination consolation bracket. Last year, 24 teams from 20 states competed in freestyle, with the Pennsylvania Chicken Tenders defeating Missouri 50-28 in the championship dual. In Greco-Roman, 21 teams from 20 states competed before the Pennsylvania Chicken Tenders downed Minnesota 50-29 in the championship dual. TheMat.com will provide results of the 2005 National Schoolboy/Schoolgirl Duals.
