Nikko Triggas named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for June 17-23

a, Calif./Ohio State University) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for June 17-23.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Triggas won titles in Greco-Roman and freestyle at the Pan American Junior Championships this past weekend in Cuenca, Ecuador.

Triggas went 3-0 in Greco-Roman on June 20 to win the title at 55 kg/121 lbs. Two days later, he swept the competition in freestyle. He defeated Jose Figueroa of Venezuela in the championship match.

Triggas qualified for the 2008 NCAA Championships as a freshman at Ohio State. He was one of the top recruits in the country after winning a California state title and winning numerous USA Wrestling national age-group titles.
