Randi Miller named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 6-12do Springs, Colo./Gator WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Feb. 6-12.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.
Miller was named Outstanding Wrestler in women’s freestyle after winning the Dave Schultz Memorial International on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Miller knocked off 2004 Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann 0-7, 1-0, 2-0 in the finals at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.
Miller knocked off past World champion Alena Kartashova of Russia 0-1, 2-0, 2-0 in the semifinals of the Schultz tournament on Saturday.
Miller, who is from Arlington, Texas, has dropped down a weight class after competing at 67 kg/147.5 lbs. last year. Miller placed second behind Katie Downing at the 2006 U.S. Nationals at 67 kg.
Earlier this year, Miller won the Guelph Open in Canada while competing in her new weight class.
