Dolores Goldman, 70, an active member of the USA Wrestling family, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 12 in Colorado Springs, Colo. after a long illness.

She was one of the nation’s most active supporters of the sport, a passion which she shared with her family.

Her husband Hank has been involved with USA Wrestling and with the sport on a national level for many years. Her son Duane is the head wrestling coach at the Univ. of Indiana.

Duane was a high school wrestling star at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, and went on to be a NCAA champion and four-time All-American at the Univ. of Iowa, competing for coach Dan Gable. He went into coaching for his career, and has served as the coach for the Big Ten Hoosier program for 14 years.

Dolores traveled all around the world, and throughout the United States, to attend major wrestling competitions. She attended every Olympic Games wrestling tournament since 1968, except for 1984 when she was too ill to attend. She also went to as many as 25 different World Wrestling Championships.

The Goldmans were friends with many wrestlers and coaches, not just in the United States but around the world. Often when international wrestling teams came to Colorado for competition or training, Dolores and the family hosted the wrestlers at her home. According to Hank, Dolores knew as many foreign wrestlers and coaches as anybody.

Along with husband Hank and son Duane, she leaves two daughters, Lynn Vagt and Leslie Hicks.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16 at the Swan-Law Mortuary in Colorado Springs from 5 pm. – 7 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be held at the First Christian Church in Colorado Springs on Tuesday, October 17 at 1 p.m.

OBITUARY FROM THE COLORADO SPRINGS GAZETTE:

Dolores A. Goldman passed away October 12, 2006, at her home in the Black Forest. She was born July 27, 1936, in Washington D.C. to Arval L. and Maysel Anderson. For 50 years she was married to Henry "Hank" Goldman with whom she had three children: Leslie Hicks of Colorado Springs, Lynne Vagt of Oak Harbor, Washington, and Duane Goldman of Bloomington, Indiana. She is survived by 14 grandchildren; a brother, Roger Anderson of San Jose, California; and two sisters: Berniece Bell of Bakersfield, California and Darlene Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska.

Dolores graduated from Weber College in Ogden, Utah, where she spent her early years. She was an amazingly wise, courageous and loving mom and grandmom as well as an unsurpassed life partner for her husband, Hank. She will be missed more than words can say. Her cheerful outlook on life, her wise counsel and her boundless love will be impossible to duplicate.

In addition to the countless hours devoted to her family, Dolores was an accomplished vocalist. In recent years she devoted many hours to the Colorado Springs chapter of Sweet Adelines, the Velvet Hills Chorus. Her innumerable friends in the chorus plus the satisfaction of singing with such an accomplished group was a source of immense pleasure to her.

Hers was a life well lived. Her faith was deep. She was one of a kind.

A visitation is scheduled from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Monday, October 16, 2006 at Swan-Law Funeral Director´s, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. A Celebration of Life Service is planned for 1:00 pm, First Christian Church, 16 East Platte Ave., Colorado Springs, CO.
